July 19, 2018. The broader design and engineering software landscape is rapidly changing as increasingly software and electronics are being tightly coupled with mechanical components and the availability of large amounts of data infiltrate the product design and execution marketplace. It is increasingly difficult to differentiate vendors as pure-play design solutions due to the rapid convergence of PLM/CAD, simulation and engineering disciplines.
MPG actively tracks numerous feature capabilities including design collaboration, data management, geospatial display, manufacturing execution, advanced process controls, among many others. Recently the MPG team has noted a number of key trends and developments:
- Manufacturing / engineering software vendors are rapidly altering product positioning to offer more comprehensive, horizontal solutions
- Significant focus on extending and enhancing depth of product integrations with core solutions in CAD, CAM, and CAE as well as ALM and other adjacencies
- Engineering software and PLM companies are looking for ways to better leverage sensor data throughout the lifecycle of products, from improved design and redesign through maintenance and repair and are making acquisitions to support this effort
