Investment Banking Analyst
overview
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Analyst to join our team in New York or Philadelphia. This is a unique opportunity to establish a career at a highly entrepreneurial investment bank with deep software and technology roots. Analysts at MPG are critical to the success of our firm and have the opportunity to work with various transaction leaders across our tight-knit team of +20 advisors. We have made numerous technology investments that aim to streamline and enhance the Analyst experience allowing junior talent to focus on high-visibility analysis, presentation crafting, and client- facing work. Senior bankers are committed to developing top-performing junior bankers through extensive mentorship and training. We strongly believe in shared success, and have developed a best-in-class training program to ensure Analysts have a strong foundation to succeed in the fast-paced world of investment banking. The position requires significant personal curiosity and tenacity, and strong candidates will demonstrate stalwart task management and inter-personal skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities will range from high visibility, client-facing, and time critical transaction processing assignments to long-term sector-specific projects. While numerous projects will emerge, Analysts will be responsible for thorough analysis and transaction support as requested from senior investment bankers:
  • Conducting yourself professionally and ethically in all circumstances
  • Processing transactions as assigned, including writing drafts of client information memorandums and presentations, preparing financial analyses, gathering and analyzing due diligence materials
  • Assisting senior personnel initiate contact with potential clients via phone, email or other means
  • Attending client meetings upon request of senior bankers
  • Assistance on deal-related research and analysis
  • Assist with financial and operational analysis, as needed
  • Passing the required securities-related examinations, including SIE, Series 79, and Series 63
 
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 and high marks in accounting, finance, and economics coursework
  • Demonstrated interest in technology and finance
  • Relevant internship experience

The position requires significant personal curiosity and tenacity, and strong candidates will demonstrate stalwart transaction management and interpersonal skills. Associates are encouraged to develop sector knowledge and establish industry relationships. We don’t expect Associates to come in as “sector experts” in software, but candidates for the role should have demonstrated experience within the broader technology economy. We expect to discuss candidates’ transaction experience on behalf of leading software, business services, or data companies. Our continued growth requires new offices, and we are particularly excited about candidates who are open to eventually spearheading our growth in the Boston or California area.
Duties and Responsibilities

While numerous projects will emerge, Associates are responsible for thorough analysis, clear communication, and the support of prospects and clients:
  • Conducting yourself professionally and ethically in all circumstances
  • Processing transactions as assigned, including writing drafts of client marketing collateral, preparing financial analyses, gathering, and analyzing due diligence materials
  • Engaging participation in client and prospective client meetings
  • Managing the efficient and timely completion of key projects
  • Commanding understanding of detailed financial analysis relevant to our sector coverage (e.g. revenue and customer analysis, financial modeling, securities waterfalls, etc.)
  • Assisting senior personnel initiate contact with potential clients via phone, email or other means
  • Working with MPG’s Insights team to identify growth opportunities for key practice areas
 
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of securities-related examinations, including SIE, Series 79, and Series 63
  • At least three (3) years of relevant investment banking experience
  • High marks in accounting, finance, and economics coursework
  • Target GPA: +3.5

Investment Banking Vice President

Vice Presidents at MPG are critical to the success of our firm, and are responsible for new business development, stalwart transaction execution, and hands-on client advisory.  The position requires significant inter-personal and production management skills, and suitable candidates will possess a strong client success track record with quantifiable strategic and investor relationships. Candidates for the role should have meaningful exposure to numerous software sectors and demonstrate strong understanding of the broader technology economy. We expect to discuss specific client engagements and each candidates’ experience leading transactions for software, business services, or data companies. Our ten-year strategic plan considers a range of growth initiatives, including new offices, new advisory services, and other offerings found at the largest mid-market investment banks. We look forward to discussing growth opportunities with candidates and how they see themselves leading growth at our firm.

We expect our Vice Presidents to lead a range of client and prospect assignments. While numerous projects will emerge, Vice Presidents are responsible for upholding MPG’s rigorous standards for detailed research and analysis, comprehensive corporate and financial advisory, and entrepreneurial client prospecting:
  •  Conducting yourself professionally and ethically in all circumstances
  • Leading transactions, including managing the development of client marketing collateral, counterparty and process management, and negotiation
  • Personal leadership for unique sector coverage and business development efforts
  • Create and foster client relationships through active prospecting effort
  • Managing the efficient and timely completion of key projects and deliverables
  • Guide the completion of complex financial analysis, modeling, industry and market research
  • Attending and participating in business development and client meetings, both in person and over video conference
  Required Qualifications
  • Completion of securities-related examinations, including SIE, Series 79, and Series 63
  • At least six (6) years of experience at established boutique or mid-market investment bank
  • Track-record of working with leading growth-stage or mid-market clients
  • Demonstrated success with new business development and client pitching
